Our modern and welcoming centre is close to the Yeovil District Hospital and Park School. The centre is located in a spacious office facility with disabled access and facilities.

"The reason I joined the employability and personal development course was to improve my interview techniques and my CV in order to increase my chances of getting a job. I enjoyed learning in with a group. The group tasks and challenges were sometimes challenging and difficult but always to illustrate a point so they actually very helpful.

I learnt that people communicate in different ways, but in ways in which they feel comfortable I also established that I need to push my confidence boundaries so that I can be more comfortable during interviews.

The programme has also helped me realise that I have more skills then I initially thought I did, and how to promote myself without being too forward or over confident.

My intention now is to progress on to the numeracy and literacy courses to improve my skills in these specific areas. After this I hope to complete a course in sage with TABS training which will further improve my employment chances."

“As a “Mature Student”, I must admit I approached the TABS Employability course with some apprehension. I need not have worried myself. From the moment I met the ten other students and my tutors Amanda and Claire, I felt at ease.

Each morning, the work for the day was explained clearly and thoroughly. Any questions were answered and throughout the whole day you would have the back-up of the tutors, if ever there were problems. I found the course brilliant, hard at times, fun at times and there were even easy bits. Every problem I had (and there were a few), I was helped fully, clearly and with no pressure put upon me at all.

From recognising your personal strengths to effective communication to sorting out a career pathway, even the mock interview was great fun. My knowledge of ICT was basic to say the least, but do not let that worry you, the tutors will oversee you all the way.

Personally I have found the longer you are un-employed you lose Confidence, Self-esteem and even Hope. You feel you have be left behind. This course has restored all of that for me and given me a great lift. I would recommend it to anyone”.

“Having been unemployed for over a year it was recommended that I complete the Employability and Personal Development course, which would allow me to take an additional course in SAGE training.

At first, I had the misconception that this course would be the similar to other employability courses but I was soon proven wrong. This course covers many areas relating to employment in great depth that I found very helpful, interactive and engaging with group discussions, tasks and small quizzes.

The course tutors were friendly, professional and were always willing to help if there were any problems along the way, and offered to help with job related problems outside of the course, such as looking through my CV.

"Just a brief note to say thank you to you all, for your professionalism and patience during the TABS courses that I took, even though I made it tough for you at times. Everything was explained very clearly and made easy to understand, which made the experience a pleasurable one & that's something I never though I would say about schooling; I'll try to use those qualities as well as the content of the courses, throughout my career.
Going into the courses, I had a certain amount of dread which I think is fairly normal, as 'going back to school', wasn't something I planned on doing, but I wanted to get to a certain level of competence, before applying for better positions and I believe I gained that, thanks in no small part to feeling so comfortable in the classes.
Now that the Christmas & New Year period is over, I've started to apply for various positions, that wouldn't have been realistic targets for me before and I'll let you know how things pan out in the near future."

‘Adult Learners Week’

“My first thought about doing the employability course was that It wasn’t for me, due to the fact that I’ve been self-employed for most of my working life. Then when I got into it I found that I was learning a lot from it, I’ve never had to fill out a application form now I can, I’ve never needed a CV now I know how to do one and also never had a interview but I now know how to prep for one & even actually taken a interview & finding out how I got on.

I’ve come away with more confidence, knowing about my transferable skills, knowing that I’m now able to look for other jobs other than my trade as a painter & decorator and not be afraid of applying for jobs. 

I’d like to finish buy thanking both tutors: Amanda & Clare for their time & there patience in teaching me & all the other staff for making this an enjoyable course. I’M EVEN COMING BACK TO DO MORE COURSES”.
