Our modern and welcoming centre is in close proximity of the town centre with excellent transport links. The centre is located in a spacious office facility on the first floor with disabled access and facilities.

Maria Marshall, 47, from Andover in Hampshire has had a huge confidence boost thanks to her learning.  Before coming to TABS, she was working at Blockbuster but following difficulties with her husband she suffered a breakdown and was signed off work. Determined to turn her life around she took qualifications in maths, English and IT and is now taking a college course to become a trained counsellor.

Maria said: “I was going through a tough time when I first came to TABS. Having been signed off work ill I wanted something to fill my time.  Because of my breakdown I was really nervous about walking through the doors.

“I hadn’t done any learning since school. I completed English and maths levels 1 and 2 with TABS and have now started an ITQ. 

“I struggled a little bit at first but the tutors at the TABS centre were so supportive I managed to get there eventually. They’ve helped build up my confidence with plenty of encouragement.

“There was a really nice atmosphere in the centre with the other learners, it was relaxed and everyone was really friendly.

“Going back and redoing things I hadn’t covered since I was at school has given me the confidence to move forward.  It’s helped with my depression and made me feel like I can do something.

“My new qualifications have allowed me to enrol on a college course and I want to become a trained counsellor.  After I started this I got poorly with kidney stones and wasn’t able to attend for a few weeks. During this time it made me realise I wanted to get straight back into work and continue my college course part time.

“I’d like to get work in the care profession. I think my new qualifications will definitely help with this.  When people see you’ve updated your skills it shows willing.  I wasn’t computer illiterate before I came to TABS, computers weren’t really around when I was learning before but that’s the way things are going now.  You need IT skills for everything.

“I would absolutely recommend TABS to anyone who wants to turn their life around.  It’s a really positive organisation for people like me and even for people who are already in work.”

"I would just like to say again, thank you to all of you for the help and support you have all given me since I have enrolled on the courses, not only am I (for the time in my life) enjoying learning, but I never thought I would ever have as much self confidence as I have achieved since enrolling.

I don't think I ever mentioned it in the enrolment, but last January I was in Therapy for Agorophobia and Acute depression, I could not even stand on my doorstep, the therapy helped me to find the courage to leave the house, but I still only left the house to do what I had to, and no more, still I suffered greatly from a lack of self confidence, now however, I am finding myself walking down the street with my chin up and no longer looking at the floor, this I put down the confidence that TABS has given me, and for this, I could not thank you all enough.
